How I Got a Toned Stomach – My Honest Review

This is my uncensored review of the method I used to get a toned stomach. I’m going to show you the exact method I used to get a flat stomach (which was my reason for starting this site) and exactly what you’ll get if you use the same method.

The online program I followed was recommended to me by a friend and is run by a qualified trainer called Mike Geary.

By the way, this is only a review of Truth About Abs. If you’re looking for the actual Truth site or if you want to see the program itself, then click here.

First of all, let me track back a little so that you can get a little bit of background on my situation when I got started.

I was getting a little overweight and flabby due to the nature of my job, and the lack of exercise I was getting. I was sitting at a desk all day and, even though I thought I was eating fairly well, I still had this little podgy bit that made me more and more self-conscious.

A friend of mine was getting married and I had been invited, not just as a guest but as a bridesmaid! There was no way I wanted to look fat in the fitted dress and there was no way I could hide it so I went looking online for some ways to get toned again, the way I used to be. I’d been invited months before, but it suddenly hit me with a month to go that I’d have to be seen and photographed and that my ‘food baby’ would show through the dress!

I found loads of great information, but also a heck of a lot of rubbish that I tried and didn’t work. I got pretty fed up and disillusioned with the whole idea and thought that maybe this was it. Maybe I’d always have a belly and maybe it would continue to get worse.

At least, that was until…

A friend of mine who’d been through a similar experience told me about Mike Geary’s program called The Truth About Abs. She’d used it in a similar situation to me to lose weight and tone her stomach and she still has that flat tummy now, months and months later.

I was sceptical after all the nonsense I’d read on the internet but I decided to give it a go and get a copy of the program. I can honestly say I haven’t looked back since, to the point that I now want to help other people to get the same (or even better results) than I got.

The course is made up of a fantastic 152-page e-book that gives you the real ‘secrets’ to getting flatter ab muscles and therefore toning your tummy. Some of the things it covers includes:

  • The one tip that’s more important than any training or diet tips you’ll ever find
  • Why eating the right fats can actually make you leaner
  • An exact diet and exercise plan to get you where you want to be
  • The secret fat loss benefits of ______ (this one will really surprise you the way it did me!)
  • Some really killer abs and core exercises to get you lean in no time

The information is pretty comprehensive and obviously comes from someone who knows what they’re talking about.

On the slight downside, I have to say, the way the e-book is laid out could be better. It’s not particularly well formatted and doesn’t have a contents pages so finding what you need isn’t as straightforward as it could be. That said, this may be because Mike doesn’t want you to skip around the text, but instead to go through the whole course methodically so that you get the maximum benefit from it.

However, the quality of the information (and the excellent bonus material you get) more than makes up for this minor issue. And hey, maybe I’m just picky, having seen so many of these guides and reports.

I dropped a couple of inches from my waist thanks to this program and got a lean stomach (not too muscley), just in time for the wedding I was due to go to.

The most important thing is that this program worked for me and I believe it will do the same for you, getting you the toned stomach you want.

The best thing is, you can actually get a flavour of the course from the free video that Mike has tailored to men and women respectively:

P.S: If you have any questions about the course, they may well already have been answered by the man behind the course in his Frequently Asked Questions section on his site, so check it out here.

Is It Possible To Get a Flat Stomach in 2 Weeks?

Well, the simple answer is yes and no. Let me explain…

The following is my controversial, honest opinion. If you’re easily offended please don’t read on. Also, if you want the entire program I would follow to achieve this goal, then you can find it here.

If you’re currently overweight throughout your body then it’s going to be tougher for you to get a flat stomach in 2 weeks. You’ll need to start to modify your diet and start some light exercise to lose some of the excess body fat.

However, if you were more like me and looking to lose just a little weight from your tummy to get it more toned then you might just be in luck! ;)

Two weeks is a relatively short period of time to work on getting a flatter stomach, so you going to need to be highly focused and disciplined for it to work. The following plan is going to be stricter than I would normally suggest you be, but that’s because you’ve set yourself the goal of to get a flat stomach in 2 weeks.

So, here goes:

  1. Change your diet to avoid any of the following for the whole 2 weeks: Store-bought salad dressings (make your own and/or use olive oil sparingly), vegetable oil (use palm or coconut oil instead), milk chocolate and other dairy-based sweet foods. Plus stop kidding yourself that diet soda is ok because it isn’t. Cook home cooked meals, using tasty natural ingredients and avoiding any of the ready-meals you find in the chiller cabinet. Use a little chilli in your diet as it helps to increase your metabolism, plus garlic which has tons of great health benefits. Also, don’t over-consume processed carbs like potato chips, bread, muffins and other dense carbs.
  2. Start to work on some exercises that will burn the fat from your stomach. I wrote an article about the types to focus on here, but the best one I know is to do front squats where you hold a barbell weight across your chest, then squat down and stand back up again. Get a trainer to teach you the best technique for this. Combine this with an exercise to work on your obliques (the muscles at the side of your body that support your entire body’s movement, including rotation and leaning one way or another – they’re known as ‘Nature’s Corset’). Get your obliques strong with a side plank and you will create a brilliant basis for your main and deep stomach muscles to tighten and be supported.
  3. Do exercises twice per day, starting light and getting more and more intense as the weeks go on. You may find that you’re achy in the first couple of days but this is because your body is not used to working these muscles. Make sure you seek advice from a fitness professional to get the techniques right. You may also want to watch this clever video to show you what you need to do and not do.

Make sure you keep to all of the above for the two weeks and you’ll start to see improvements. You may actually feel the improvements before you see them as you’ll be toning and training your body from the inside out. Stick with it and you’ll look gorgeous in no time! :)

Exercises to Tone Stomach – What Works and What Doesn’t

When it comes to working out how to get a toned stomach, you need to be careful what kind of exercises you do, as only a few will really work well.

I’ve actually talked a little about this in the article I wrote on the Easiest Exercise to Get a Toned Stomach, so check that out if you’d like to see a good exercise that doesn’t take massive amounts of effort.

If you search online for ‘exercises to tone stomach‘ you find (just as I did) that a lot of the information that’s out there is fairly conflicting. Some people say that stomach crunches – also known as sit-ups – are great, while others say that you can injure your back doing them and that they don’t actually help to toned the whole stomach, just the muscle that’s underneath.

For me personally, that’s what initially happened when I tried to do them every day. I could feel my core muscles getting tighter and stronger, but it wasn’t toning the layer of fat that sat on top of the muscle. As a result, I lost faith and temporarily gave up. Now I don’t do any sit-ups as I’ve found better ways.

I now know that getting that flatter stomach is not just a question of exercise but also nutrition, which was perhaps one of the biggest lessons for me during my journey.

Anyway, here are the kinds of exercises to tone stomach that you need to be doing:

  • The first kind actually involves your whole body (as it’s a myth that you can completely isolate one body part at a time). This kind works the main part of your abs – the part that develops the same muscles that create a six pack. These include things like the front squat, where the bar weight is held across your chest instead of over your shoulders. The best weight for this is obviously a light barbell. You can increase the weight as you get stronger. Get a professional trainer to help you with this until you can do them on your own.
  • how to get a toned stomachThe other kind works your oblique muscles, which are the ones that will get your love handles back in check! :) This best one for this is known as the plank, but it’s a variation on the plank that works really well. Normally, the plank is where you get into a push-up position, but with your forearms resting on the floor supporting your weight, instead of just your hands. With this one, you’re going to do that, but on one side, then the other. I took a picture of my friend Craig doing one at my local gym. It may look a little silly but it really works! You need to hold this for 10 seconds to start, increasing the time each occasion you do it.

Here’s a couple of great article resources from the guy that trained me how to get a toned stomach permanently:

The Easiest Exercise to Get a Toned Stomach

Having been looking for an exercise to get a toned stomach for some time, I’ve found several ways that work well. I wanted to share one of those with you.

First of all, you need to make sure that you’re getting a flatter stomach for the right reasons. This may sound odd but you have to make sure that you’re doing it for yourself and not for anyone else. If you do it for the wrong reasons (like because someone said something to you), you won’t keep up the things you need to do to keep that tummy toned!

If you’re like me, you may have already found and even tried a ton of ways to get a flatter tummy. Many are hard work to keep up… After all, no one wants to be sore for the whole of the next day.

The truth is, there are easier ways to get a toned stomach.

One of the things you’ve probably already heard is ‘Eat Less, Exercise More’. That’s fine as far as advice goes, but it doesn’t deal with toning your tummy the way you might want. I certainly didn’t have a film star body after doing it… I just ended up being more hungry!

Here’s one of my favourite techniques from the method that got me the results I wanted:

how to get a toned stomachThe simple name for it is a squat. If you can get good at doing these, they will help you to get a leaner body far more quickly than conventional exercise or fad diets.

I hadn’t heard of them but it simply means you stand with your feet shoulder width apart and then squat down. The idea is to do this with a weight across your shoulders or over your head. I prefer the ‘across your shoulders’ way of doing it.

It doesn’t actually look like you’re working out your abs, but the fact that you’re lifting a weight (even a light one) as you go to standing position means that you’re honing your stomach muscles each time you do it.

The best way to start is with an unweighted bar to get the motion right and then build up to a slightly heavier weight. There’s no need to go overboard with it, just to the point you feel comfortable but not overly weighed down. After all, if you can’t stand up after the first squat, then you’re not working anything out!

Also, be sure to keep your back straight. You should feel it working your abs as you rise up. Do it steadily (not fast) and you’ll have a way to tone your stomach quickly.

Note: There are machines in most gyms that ‘help’ you do these, but actually, it’s far better to use ‘free’ weights rather than machines as the machines don’t allow your entire body to work as one. It’s a more natural process for your body to use weights, not machines.

I’m not a professional trainer or anything, so it’s best to learn it from one of them directly, the way I did. If you’d like to learn the same complete method I used to get my stomach toned then click the following link:
